Memorial Day Holiday -- Monday, May 25, 2020 -- Manhattan Beach Pier

Head light & phone mount...

As the clock says, I got to the pier about 7:15 AM.  Since it's a holiday, left the house early to avoid the crowds...

The woman in the red coat is from CBS news and was interviewing people.  She asked me & I said no thanks...

Early enough that there's more sea gulls than people.  Quite a few surfers in the water though...

Parking lots at the beach are closed.

Later, this area will be overflowing with people...

Garage Organizing - part 39 -- engraver, Dremmel, electric impact, Toyota jack & Honda Valve Cover

RH drawer cabinet, middle drawer:  Put the engraver & Dremmel in this drawer...

Need to find a home for this large 1/2" electric impact gun.  It's branded "Rotunda" (there was a famous building on the Dearborn Ford campus called the Rotunda...)

Put a Toyota jack, Honda S2000 Valve Cover & a fold up seat back in the RH lower cabinet...

Reorganized the 2nd from the LH end lower cabinet drawer to store some hooks and other miscellaneous tools/hardware...

Saturday, May 23, 2020 -- BBQ Korean Ribs

Bought some pre-marinated Korean ribs at the Korean market.  They turned out OK but the marinade was weak.  Gave it a try but not worth it.  Will go back to making my own...

Garage Organizing - part 38 -- stuff handy near the entrance to the garage...

There are certain basic tools/items that I use very often in the garage, especially for adjustments related to the bicycle.  I've been keeping them on the top of the table saw extension table because it's the most handy location.  But, in order to achieve the cleared & clean horizontal surfaces, I have to put these somewhere else.
Decided to put them in the drawers of this tool box that's just below the table saw surface.  This larger drawer will hold these often used items.

In a deeper smaller drawer, I've placed the bicycle lights that sometimes get used.

Closeup of the often used stuff...

I added some more tools to be stored in the center bottom compartment of the large Kennedy fold open tool box that sits above the box where I put the often used tools.
Just added a small two claw puller & a Model T valve adjuster tool in the bottom.

Also added a 3M epoxy mixing gun & some epoxy.

The large Kennedy fold open box is ready to go back on top of the tool cabinet (have to put some wood spacers so that it doesn't sit on the handle of the tool cabinet).

The table saw top is getting cleared, slowly but surely...

A bunch of miscellaneous bits to go in the "spare parts" bins...

Saturday, May 23, 2020 -- Manhattan Beach Pier -- Bike Path is Open...

They officially opened the bike path at the beach.  Rode to Manhattan Beach Pier.  Quite a lot of people on the bike path...

The parking at the pier is still closed.  Lots of people on bikes.

Pier is still closed.  Quite a few people laying out or sitting on the sand.  I don't think it's allowed but if they don't get too close, I don't see the big risk...

Most of the lifeguard stations are starting to open.

Garage Organizing - part 37 -- Putting a surface on a rolling base platform

I have a couple of these low metal rolling platforms.  One is currently being used to store the drafting table outside.  This second one will be used to store some bins with stuff in it.  But, before I can put the bins on it, I need to put a "floor" on it.  I have some 1/2" thick wood from IKEA that I'll cut to size and screw to the rolling base.  Using a circular saw (on my folding Stanley work bench), I cut three pieces of wood to size & drilled holes to match some existing holes in the corners of the base.  I tapered the holes so that I can use some flush fitting screws.  The first piece of wood has been located on the base in this picture.

I had to drill new holes in the metal base for the middle piece of wood.  The screws and nuts that I'm using are some old hardware I bought somewhere a long time ago.  I found these in one of the hardware storage bins that I've reorganized.  These screws have a flat head and the nuts that go with them are square nuts (not hex).  I'm guessing that this hardware is about 75 years old... I have this very old "beehive" wood handle flat head screw driver that's perfect for this job.

Located the last piece of wood floor...

Need to install the nuts on the bottom side...

The corner crews near the built in casters...

The square nuts being installed.

The base is finished.  I was able to stack seven large storage bins on the base and am able to easily move the bins around now...

I had to get everything that's been sitting scattered outside into the garage, since it's supposed to rain tomorrow.  I had this base waiting outside to be finished and some empty storage bins.  I brought the empty storage bins inside the garage, as well as this base.  I'm all set for the rain tomorrow...
