Late 1920s Lincoln Greyhound Radiator Cap Mascot

Someone bent the mascot up so it stands up more than is leaping forward, but otherwise is in pretty good condition.

It’s an original vintage part from the 1920s (not a reproduction).

I might try to bend it back down but would be afraid of breaking it!

The guy I bought it from told the following story & I believe him:

  • Bought it about 70 years ago when he was pretty young, from a local junk yard
  • Paid $75 for it back then (that was a lot of money back then)
  • Paid $5/month until he could pay it off
  • Intended to put it on a car but never did
  • Has cancer now and is getting rid of “stuff”

At some point in the early 1930s, Lincoln stopped using the greyhound mascot and started using a coat-of-arms type of badge.

Ford, actually started using a similar greyhound mascot on some of the Ford cars in the mid 1930s, which makes it a bit confusing if you’re looking at a Lincoln mascot or a Ford one.

The Lincoln mascot was supposedly produced using the “lost wax” casting method and is cast out of brass (the Rolls Royce “spirit of ecstacy” is supposedly made the same way).  It's a labor intensive process sometimes used in making fine art bronze sculptures.

Lincoln Motor Company is stamped into the side...

Could you a cleaning/polish...
