After a lot of cleaning and steel wool scrubbing...

The seat clamp area of the seat post was over tight because someone installed the seat post where the narrow section was below the clamp.  Thus, to get the clamp bolt to be tight, they over squeezed the seat tube.  This type of seat post should not be installed below the round section.  This picture and the one below shows about the most that you want to install this seat post.

The bike looks better with the white bar tape & the seat post cleaned up.  Need to get a white seat for this bike.  Also, I'm thinking of replacing the yellow striped tires with ones with a white stripe...  I'm not a big fan of the silver wheel rims but with the switch to white color parts, the silver rim is blending in more.  It's probably the wheels that the bike was originally built up with so I'm now leaning to keeping them...
