Porsche Crests & Durant -- Long Beach Car Swap Meet -- Sunday, December 9, 2018

Bought some more of these small Porsche crests from the same guy I had bought some from previously.  He said these were the last of the batch that he had...  They have the (R) mark molded into the backs.  Usually, this mark is on the genuine Porsche made/licensed products, but it could also be "knocked off."  The quality of these badges are very good, so it's not easy to tell if they are genuine Porsche or not...

Bought this from a guy who had it in a glass case.  Looking inside the case, it looked like it was made out of plastic (Bakelite).  But when he took it out of the case, it was apparent that it's made out of brass.  It's a little dirty and has the usual surface corrosion/tarnish of aged brass.

At first I thought it was a steering wheel center but now I'm guessing it's a hubcap.  It has about a three and seven/eighth inch diameter.

First, I cleaned the outside with a plastic brush and some mild chemical cleaner.

Then, I cleaned the surface with some very fine steel wool.  Didn't want to take off too much of the surface.  Just enough to slightly highlight the raised sections in the middle to show the brass...

Sakae Crank Arm Dust Caps -- Whittler Bicycle Swap Meet -- Saturday, December 8, 2018

Bought these for the Teledyne.  They're made of steel.
Lightly cleaned them with some fine steel wool.

Nice finishing touch.

Would have preferred to have found some vintage Shimano dust caps, but these Sakae ones look good and are probably about the right vintage.  Don't know anything about the Sakae brand.  Will have to do a little research to learn a little bit...
