MGB -- Fuel Pump Installation -- Part 1

Took off the cover over the battery trays to allow light in for working under the vehicle.

The aftermarket electric fuel pump on the car (near the battery).

The fuel pump is connected to the vehicle wiring using bullet connectors.

There's three bolts mounting the fuel pump to some structure near the battery.

To gain better access, removed the bracket holding the parking brake cable in place near the battery.

Removing the old fuel pump.
When the fuel line from the fuel tank was removed, a lot of fuel spilled!
Had to plug the fuel line with a bolt.

Old fuel pump.

Need to put bullet connectors on the new pump.

Went to the local auto parts store to buy some bullet connectors.

Crimped the bullet connector to the pump wiring.

The bullet connectors (male) that I bought have built-in shrink wrap tubing/sealer.

Used a heat gun to shrink the connector and seal it.

Weather proof.

Wiring is ready for installation.

Not sure what these two parts are for...

Fuel Cap.
This looks almost exactly like the one on the MGB.
May fit...

License plate lamp housing & glass lens.
Lucas glass lens.

This one is just the metal housing...

Monday, July 4, 2022 -- Early morning ride to Manhattan Beach Pier

Left the house  about 6:15 AM.
The wind is completely different early in the morning versus mid-day or late afternoon.

This morning, there was very little wind going out to the pier and on the way back, the wind was blowing in (headwind going home).

The speed graph in pretty even for the entire ride.
This is very unusual.

The mileage splits are pretty even for the whole ride.
Averaged 18.19 mph.

Sitting outside the Starbucks.
Toasted plain bagel with cream cheese, dark roast coffee & ice water.

Looking down at the water.

Simzy's restaurant, next door to the Starbucks, has a nice patio setup.

There's quite a bit of activity already at the pier, at 7:30 AM.
The ride back home took about 32 minutes.

Tour de France -- Stage 1 - Friday, July 1, 2022

NBC is posting "extended highlights" on YouTube for each of the stages.
The first day is a short time trial (about 13 km).
The winner averaged over 32 mph, in a light rain!  With many sharp corners on the course!

The unexpected winner, Yves Lampaert! (Belgian)
He also gets to wear the first Yellow Jersey!

Two years ago, he was in a very bad crash in a race and was put in a coma as part of his recovery.
Incredible recover to even participate in the Tour.
But to win the first stage is amazing.

Pogacar (Slovenian) has won the last two years.
Ganna (Italy) is the World Champion for time trials.
Van Aert (Belgium) and Van Derpoel (Netherlands) are relatively young stars who are top riders and have many wins under their belt already.

Pogacar is still under 23!
