Dining table bench - part 4 -- Making the Butterfly

I had this piece of purple hardwood.
It's just about right for the butterfly.

Will cut it to about 3 inches long.

Also scribed a line on the end that the butterfly will go.
Will trim the board to the line on the table saw...

This line gives me an idea of where the board will end so as to gauge how large the butterfly should be and where it might go.

Using the chop saw to cut the butterfly piece to size.
I attached the shop vacuum directly to the saw to minimize the amount of sawdust...

The shop vac (Fein brand) sits about 6 feet away from the chop saw.
The hose is long enough to reach.

First, I need to make a clean end cut...

Then, cut to length.
The wood is very hard so had to go slow with the saw...

Laying out the butterfly shape on the piece...

The butterfly piece is about 1/3 the thickness of the bench, which should be about right...

Kitchen Faucet Dripping... Again... Fixed, again...

I had fixed a dripping issue a few months ago.
This time, the hot water side appears to be dripping.
First, I took off the lever (just a screw holding it in place).
The large cap nut is 1 & 1/4".  I happen to have the right size wrench.
It's easy to remove with the right size wrench...

Found white plastic debris in the valve's sealing area.

Also, there's some debris inside the valve (the left arrow).

Used a T-pin to pull out the debris inside the valve.

Used the right size wrench to put the valve assembly back on.

Took off the cold side valve also, just to make sure that there isn't any debris in the valve.

Checked inside the valve also to make sure there isn't any white plastic debris...

Wednesday, December 30, 2020 -- Joshua Tree National Park -- Part 3

Look carbon wheels...

These are the spare carbon rim wheels that I used for a few rides while I was fixing the Mavic wheels that came on the Cannondale.

I don't remember if the front wheel hub ends were rusting before the recent use or not but now they need some "de-rusting" before I put them away...

The rear cassette got pretty dirty and also collected quite a bit of sand.
Will clean before putting the wheels away...
