After Cleaning

Repairing the Front Brake and Derailleur -- Part 2 (continuing disassembly)

Removed the LH brake lever assembly from the handlebar.

Removed the hood to see what's underneath.  There's rust on some of the hardware under the hood!

The brake cable housing enters the assembly from the bottom, near the clamp.

The shifter cable housing enters from the side near the top.

The black lever on the side of the brake assembly is to spread the brake pads apart a few millimeters to easily remove the wheel (tire clearance).  This mechanism isn't working right.  It's sticking and won't raise without turning the brake cable clamp with it, which puts kinks in the cable...

Took the brake cable off and got the cable housing out of the top of the brake assembly.  The cable housing was somewhat difficult to get off and there's a lot of debris inside the top where the cable housing sits in.

Brake cable & housing...

There's all these screws under the brake lever, but none of these have to be touched to get the brake and shifter cables off.

This is the front derailleur shifter cable as it meets the frame near the headtube.

The shifter cable has this barrel adjuster inline with the cable housing to allow small adjustments to the shifter cable while riding (this adjuster is within easy reach).
