Sunday, August 14, 2022 -- Mid-day 20 mile Bike Ride with SKMK

She had replaced the inner tubes and swapped the tires over to gravel tires.  One of the tires was flat.
The inner tube was damaged.
Went to the Sports-basement store (kinda like an REI) to buy some replacement inner tubes & some other stuff.
Replaced the flat inner tubes and swapped the tires back to the road tires (she wanted to swap back).
Adjusted both brakes so that they don't rub.
Then lubricated the chains as the last thing.

Will keep an eye out for a carbon road bike with the latest Shimano electronic shifting 105 groupset (probably from an online company like Canyon) for SKMK.
Maybe they supply chain will catch up in a year or so?

I took my bike with me up there so we can go for a ride together.

The bike path along the shore of the reservoir is closed at this point for work.  Looks like they're going to take a long time...

You cross this bridge with a dedicated bike lane portion to get to the reservoir bike path.

SKMK called this the "water temple".
It's on the temporarily closed section of road & is open for people to visit.
Don't know exactly what it is but it had lots of grass area around the temple/water with trees for people to relax on (some people with bikes appeared to be taking a nap)

About 3/4 of the ride was on roads closed to cars.

Drove the bikes over to the starting point (about 10 minute drive from SKMK's apartment in Redwood City).
They close about a 3.5 mile stretch of the car road on Sundays (9 to 3) so it's nice to ride bikes on a wide two lane road with no cars.
Then a short stretch on a normal highway to get to the bike path next to the reservoir.

Sports Cars Illustrated -- January 1959 - Part 7

Castrol advertising with a Fiat-Abarth...

Haan accessory company advertised well into the 70s, if not 80s...

Later, the ads prominently used the entire name Vilem B. Haan...

didn't know EMPI made fuel filters for VWs back then.
EMPI is  still around (63 years after this ad) and located in So. Cal. Still.
They had a "booth" at the Pelican Parts anniversary picnic earlier in the summer...

I've heard the name "Heathkit" before, but didn't know they made something automotive.
Looks like an oscilloscope.

Motor Trend 100 years of the Automobile -- Part 9 & Last

The Toronado was a pioneer of FWD for GM back in the 1960s.
It came around again and became the common drivetrain for the entire industry.
But Oldsmobile is gone...

Mitsubishis...

Like the early Civics.

Marketing BS...

Ad for itself?

Not quite...

Another Japanese car brand that's gone from the US Market (along with Daihatsu & Suzuki).
