Bench Legs -- Applying the finish...

After applying the first coat of the medium walnut Danish oil...

After 15 minutes, applying a second coat of the Danish oil...

Rubbed off the excess after another 15 minutes.
It should be good to go (& touch) after drying overnight.

When designing the legs, I thought about making the verticals full length and the horizontals shorter and have it go between the verticals.  It would have looked better because you wouldn't be able to see the end grain of the horizontal pieces then.
Also, the legs would look taller without the horizontal pieces being visible from the side.
I decided against it because structurally, the way I built it is more stable and the attachment to the bench would also be more stable.  Function before form...
The other option would have been to do a 1/2 lap joint at the corners to visually keep the full length on the sides and hide the end grain.  This would have been pretty tricky because of the 5 degree angle to the verticals.  It could have been done...

Just set the bench on the legs for now.
Ordered some threaded inserts for the wood so that the legs can be bolted on.  That way it will be easy to remove the legs in the future (possibly replace the legs with something better...).

April 7, 2021 -- got the first COVID vaccine shot...

CVS near USC

Interesting area...
There's a trailer in the parking lot with a solar panel on it.
It has a light tower with many security cameras mounted at the top.
I don't think I want to be in this parking lot at night...

Was supposed to get a text 15 minutes before the appointment time to check-in online.
Didn't get the text.
Went inside and checked-in at the pharmacy.
The whole thing took about 30 minutes.
Not too bad...

Bench -- Applying Wood Wax

Applied a wood wax over the Danish oil finish.

The wax needs to "dry" for about 15 minutes before buffing off the excess.

After buffing the wax...
The bench top is now done.
