Vilem B. Haan Steering Wheel - Before & After refinishing the wood rim

The steering wheel on the left (faded wood rim) was sold by Vilem B. Haan automotive accessory company (they had full page ads in Road & Track in the 60's).  This wheel has the Haan logo etched into the bottom of the middle spoke.  The wood was missing nearly all it's original finish...

They also sold Nardi wheels, Maserati horns, Halda rally chronographs, etc...

Sanded the rim and applied Watco Danish Oil to the wood (cherry finish).  This finish is an oil and soaks into the wood.  Applied two times to get an even finish...  The end result is a satin looking finish which highlights the wood's natural grain (unlike a urethane top coat which sits on top of the wood).  Looks & feels very nice...
