Drove these in the late 1980s while working for Ford in Dearborn. Very heavy clutch. Clutch pedal very high (too high) with too much travel. Gear shift extremely high effort and "notchy". Poorly designed seats (no support and uncomfortable to boot). Tiny trunk & poor fuel economy. But, a total sleeper, especially in boring colors (like grey or silver).
Took one (pool car) once to go to a meeting about a mile away, in the winter. The roads were somewhat icy and I barely made it. I remember sliding towards a curb at about 5 MPH. There was nothing you can do except for wait for physics to take its course. Stopped just before hitting the curb! Nearly impossible to drive on snowy/icy roads. But, then, when it's icy, most cars were nearly the same. |
