Seating the Bottom Race of the Headset Assembly to the fork and installing the two headset races in the head tube (1970's Teledyne)
Used a pipe (blue -- it's the handle for my floor jack...) to press the bottom headset race to seat at the bottom of the fork's upper shaft |
The pipe pushed on the metal race (not on the rubber seal at the edge of the race) |
Used a large socket and a hammer to "press" the bottom headset bearing race into the head tube. It's a slight interference fit so it doesn't take too much force to "press" it in. |
Installed the top bearing race the same was at the bottom one. |
Now it's ready for assembly with the fork, bearings, top race, cap, washer and top lock nut. |
Bottom Bearing greased and installed with fork |
Top bearing balls installed |
Lots of grease for the top bearing |
