Saturday, August 3, 2024 - Kauai - Lydgate Farms Chocolate store in downtown Kapa'a

We were walking around Kapa'a and noticed this sture.
About 15 years ago, we rented the main house at the Lydgate farm for a week.
It was available for rent through VRBO (Vacation Rentals By Owner).
It was a wonderful house on the farm where they grew Cacao among other fruits.
As part of our rental, we were allowed to join the farm tour for free.
It was a memorable place and we had a memorable experience.

The house is large with a lower level with two additional bedrooms which we didn't need or use.
It also has a very large lanai where we had coffee in the morning and watched the sunset in the evening.

It seems that they only the the VRBO rental for a short time.
Our host was Tony Lydgate who owned the property.
The Lydgates have a long history in Kauai (one of the Beaches is named after them).  We found out that Tony's son took over and expanded the business including the store in Kapa'a.

The store was closed when we went by.
We'll try to go back when it's open...

Sunday, August 4, 2024 - Kauai - Papa'a Beach

Parking area for Papa'a beach.
A short hike to the beach (1/4 mile or so?).
When you get to the beach, you walk to the other side of the small bay by walking on the rocks for abut 100 yards.
Not difficult but it's better with shoes than sandals.
There was no one at the beach.
We set up under a bush for some shade.
The waves were pretty gentle.
The rocks and reef damps the waves so that the bay is pretty tranquil.
There's a stream that flows into the beach.
There's schools of very small fish in the steam where it meets the beach.
The snorkeling was decent (some fish around the rocks).
We had a very nice and quiet time at the beach.
Very few people around.
Peaceful.
