Christmas-New Years break in the UK -- Part 1 -- London

Stayed the first couple of nights at a Hotel on the south side of the Thames.  Went for a walk along the river near the hotel.  View across the river...

Took Uber into Central London - Harrods.  Then took the tube to Leicester Square.

Near Piccadilly Circus and Leicester Square.

Walked by China Town.

Took this ferry boat across the river to have breakfast in the Canary Park area.  The dock for the ferry is at the hotel where we stayed and as a guest of the hotel, the ferry ride was complimentary.  Nice.  This picture is from the North side of the Thames, looking back to the hotel.

Waxed the old PROTO tool box -- looks well used but a little bit shiny

Wax applied & fully dried. 

The bottom section has been buffed & the top is waiting to be buffed...

After all of the outer surfaces have been buffed.  Initially, I was going to repair the exterior but now I think I'll leave it as is with "patina."

MGB Right Side Door Seal Replacement

The RH door seal is pretty worn out and damaged.  At the top of the door opening's rear (near the latch), the seal did not go all the way up into the chrome cap (it's supposed to go inside it).

This is a closeup of a section along the rocker.  The rubber "bulb" part of the seal is compressed nearly flat and is cracked.  Doesn't really seal and the door, when closed is slightly loose because the seal is not taking up the space & compressing.

This is at the front of the door near the windshield.  The seal is not seated along the flange and the top is not under the chrome cap (like at the rear).  It turns out that the metal flange, which is two pieces that come together, was pretty bent and the two pieces were not sitting on top of each other (should be spot welded together).  It looks like there was a previous sheet-metal repair & the pieces were attempted to be riveted together, but poorly.

Bought a length of similar type of seal at the Long Beach Car Swap Meet.  It's not specifically designed for the MGB but is pretty close.  I started at the rear and made sure to put the seal all the way up under the chrome cap.  Had to take the cap off to ensure a good fit.

Working down the rear edge of the opening and pressing the seal in place over the sheet-metal flange.

Got to the front of the door opening.  I forgot to take a picture of the flange before I fixed it.  The whole area was bent over and the two metal thicknesses were sitting several mm apart, so the seal would not even go over the flange.  Using some large pliers, I was able to get the flange pretty close to where it should be.  The seal was able to be installed after the flange repair.

The is the top of the rear after it's been fully installed and the cap screwed back into place.  Nice a neat fit.

This is the front end of the seal after the seal was cut to the correct length and the end properly located under the chrome cap.  Also turned out pretty neat.

A few leftover parts (the rivet had to be taken out since it was not installed correctly in the first place).

Need to replace the door belt seal.  It's very hard and pieces have chipped off...

This is the old seal, after removing from the car.  Sections of the "bulb" was detached from the assembly.  After the repair, the door is very tight and it takes a little bit of force to latch the door, which is good (the seal is nice and tight).  It should also reduce noise from the door opening area.
