The recent Santa Ana winds tore apart the car cover on the Mercedes.
The cover was pretty thin & need replacing anyway...
I have a replacement cover waiting.
The bumpers are the only rusty parts on the car.
It's self inflicted. I had the bumpers straightened and chromed but went the cheapest way.
When the chrome was done, they skipped the first two steps (copper & nickel) and just put chrome on raw metal. That doesn't work & will peel off pretty quickly.
I need to put some rust treatment on the exposed metal to arrest the surface rust...
The car is a good candidate for a modern powertrain swap.
the original 2.2 L I-6 is pretty tired an anemic.
The engine bay is huge and tall.
It could accept almost any engine.
In period (early 1960s), they raced the car in rallies and sedan races. I have some period large fog lights that can be mounted on the bumpers, like the rally cars were equipped in period...
Put the new cover on.
It's a pretty nice cover.
It just barely fits.
In the nick of time... It's raining today...
