The Ikea dresser in the walk-in closet has one drawer where the bottom got deformed and fell out in the back.
It's deformed enough to interfere with the drawer below it...
CM uses this drawer.
She told me about the problem at 9 PM. Was done fixing at 9:40 PM...
Will install a reinforcement on the inside (there's not enough space on the outside for a wood reinforcement (bottom of drawer is too close to the next drawer below it.
Installed a reinforcing piece of 1/2" plywood on the inside bottom of the drawer.
Used screws to keep the flimsy drawer bottom connected to the reinforcement. (pre-drilled holes for all the screws)
Erased the pencil lines on the drawer front when done...
Used 5/8" screws on the bottom.
Used two long screws (1.5") from the front and back to keep the reinforcement in place.
Because the dresser is in a corner of the walk-in closet, below some hanging pants, the appearance of the two screws on the front of one of the drawers doesn't make any difference.
If it was in a visible location in a room, I would have used a metal bracket on the inside of the drawer, pocket screws or wood biscuits/glue so that screws would not be visible...
The plywood reinforcement takes up a little bit of space but not bad.
Done.
