1999 Porsche Calendar Purchased at the Long Beach Automotive Swap Meet -- January 10, 2016

This is a very large calendar (about 30" x 30").  1999 (previous century) seems a long time ago...  It still had the Porsche "coin" with it.
The Porsche "flag" was purchased a couple of years ago at the annual Porsche Literature Swap Meet at the LAX Airport Hilton on Century Blvd.  This year, the swap meet will be on March 5...

This may be the best picture in the calendar...
This smaller Porsche 2005 Calendar (unopened) was purchased at the LAX Swap Meet last year.  This is much smaller (about 18" x 24")...
It happened to be sitting on the table in the same area where I placed the calendar I just bought...

Stuff from the Long Beach Automotive Swap Meet -- Sunday, January 10, 2016

Bunch of sockets (Plomb, Snap-on & Proto).

Guessing that the tank is from a three wheeler or a quad.  The tank is made of stamped steel welded together (not plastic...)
After Cleaning...

The fuel cap has an On-Off knob on it...?  For the reserve?

12 volumes of Automotive Quarterly in slipcases.  Already have quite a few of these, but without the slipcases.  The price was hard to pass up...  Will replace the ones I already have with these.
Automotive Quarterly started in 1962 (a couple of years before I was born) and they went out of business in 2013 (a couple of years ago...).  The last volume was 52 & only issue 1 was produced...
I probably have about 2/3 of the entire series (mostly the older ones).
Now, how to get rid of the duplicates!...

Whittier Bicycle Swap Meet -- Saturday, January 10, 2016

This chrome bicycle is very similar to the one I bought last year...  Mine was missing a few parts (like tires & a seat!) but it's now pretty much complete...
Below are a few pictures of my bike with some of the new hardware on it (poor pictures due to the bike being stacked in the garage with many other bikes...)
This is a new Brooks Bike Seat that I've had for several years.  Bought it at the Long Beach Motorcycle Swap Meet...

This is a new Brooks leather bicycle bag that can go on the handlebar or on the back of the seat.  Also bought at the Long Beach Motorcycle Swap Meet, but at a different time than the seat...

These are still made in Osaka.  Yet another Long Beach Motorcycle Swap Meet purchase, at a different visit and all from different vendors...  This will be put on the chrome bike.

Not a Long Beach Motorcycle Swap Meet purchase.  Bought this through Amazon recently.  It's a water bottle bracket for mounting to the tube of a bike (seat or down tube...), for bikes built without built-in water bottle mounts.  This will also go on the chrome bike, for now...  (it doesn't fit the vintage vibe of the chrome bike but for now...)

This "Vitus" is built very similarly to the Guerciotti (picture below).  I have a red Guerciotti...  The main junctions appear to be made of cast aluminum with different material tubes connecting them.  In the case of the Vitus, it's painted over so hard to tell what the material is.  The Guerciotti appears to have carbon fiber tubes.
Even though the Vitus & Guerciotti look similar in the aluminum joint area, the casting are completely different!

Placerita Canyon Natural Area -- December 30, 2015

First time at this park...  This was supposed to be a 7 mile loop hike with about 1,500 feet of elevation.  Because we missed an unmarked turn at about the half-way point of the hike, it turned out to be a 12 mile hike with about 3,000 feet of elevation!
Once we figured out that we were on the wrong path, it was 4 PM (gets dark at 5 PM) and we had to backtrack quite a bit to try and find the turnoff that we missed.  On the way back, we took what we thought was the correct turnoff but it turned out to be a dead-end...  adding even more to the backtracking...  Finally found the right trail which had a marker about 100 yards onto the trail, instead of at the junction!  Clarice & I got back to the car as it was getting really dark...
We had good cell reception and could use the map on the iPhone but the trails are not on the Apple maps.  Found out after, that Google maps actually shows the hiking trails on their map! (loaded Google Maps App on the phone for the future)  We stopped at Sawtelle for some ramen.  The area was so busy, we had to park about three and a half blocks away.  When we got out of the car to walk to the restaurant, our legs wouldn't work!  The short walk for ramen was so painful!  My upper legs were sore for several days after...

This is a bubbling small pool of "naturally filtered" petroleum coming up from the ground.  It's pretty much clear and is combustible (supposedly was used as-is to run a Model T...).

The last couple of miles of the trail back to the parking lot was very steep and undulating, along the spine of some hills.  It was so steep that it would have been nearly impossible to go up and down if the ground would have been more loose...  Luckily, the dirt was firm enough to get some traction...  Just barely...  We didn't fall down, fortunately.
