Dining table bench - part 8 -- removing the material from the board for the butterfly

Will use the router to take out most of the butterfly joint area of the board.

Will use a 1/4" straight cutter.
It's interesting that this set is made in Italy...

Set the depth of cut to be just a little bit shallower than the height of the butterfly.

Done with the router.
Cutting into or over the line would be a disaster!
Was able to not get too close to the line.

The rest of the wood removal will be done with chisels.

Tuesday, December 29, 2020 -- Manhattan Beach Pier -- Day after the rain

Watermelon flavor Kombucha...  Not bad...

Very windy day.
Head-wind all the way back home!

The people on the right are the ones giving out the "sample" tea...

Super clear day (day after rain).

Dining table bench - part 7 -- Cutting the butterfly to size and sanding...

Cleared away some of the stuff in the way of using the band saw.
Connected the vacuum hose to the dust port also...

Cutting the basic shape and leaving the line so that I can sand to the final shape.

Rough cutting close to shape.

Put the sanding station on top of the table saw.

Connected the vacuum to the dust port on the sanding station.

Before sanding.
The sides are pretty rough from the band saw.

Can still see the pencil lines on the top.

Sanded the sides down to the pencil lines and also sanded the top and bottom.

The other edge...

This is the "bottom" of the butterfly.
It's a little rough but it's fine for gluing into the board...

Approximate location of the butterfly...

Will next use a router to rough out the shape of the butterfly on the board.
Marked the orientation of the butterfly (it's not perfectly symmetrical so don't want to mix up the orientation).

A couple of mystery tools...

Didn't know what this is...

Found this online.
Would have never guessed...

Also don't know what this is.
The brand is the Costco house brand.
It looks like a metal scraper...

Found this online...

Miso Ramen & Thermos Mugs...

Made the last batch of miso ramen using the fresh noodles from San Diego...

Made enough for the four of us...

We received a set of four of these thermos mugs for Christmas.
They work very well for coffee and tea.
Keeps stuff hot for a surprising long time...
Have been using them every day!
