The instructions on applying the elastomeric roof coating says to thoroughly clean the surface of all dirt and dust to ensure good adhesion. So, thoroughly swept the surface. |
Not a lot of debris but quite a bit of dirt/dust. Swept it all towards to middle of the roof before picking it all up with a brush/dust pan. |
The product description specifically calls out use on flat type of roofs. It's a sealer (moisture barrier and a reflective surface to reduce heat absorption). I'm using it mostly to seal the roof from minor leaks. The roof is flat enough that in spots, that when it rains, some water tends to pool and find it's way in through invisible joints in the layers of the asphalt sheet roofing material, even though those joints were sealed when the roofing was applied. I had the house and garage roof redone many years ago. I had them strip the roof all the way down to the wood boards (a few of them had to be replaced on the house) and a new roof applied. So, it's only got one layer of roofing material on the roof. They say that you can apply up to three layers before having to strip it back to the wood again. |
With the roller, can't get right to the edge where the tiles are overlapping the roofing. Will have to go back later with a brush. |
After applying the second coat. |
Used almost the entire 5 gallons. There's probably about 1/2 gallon left in the pail. Will use it later to cover the edges where the roller wouldn't fit. |
