Wrench Drawer -- Went through to find a few to put into a couple of small wrench holders...

Emptied a drawer of wrenches.

Separated them by type (open end, combination, etc.).

Found a few open and combination wrenches to put into some old holders...

 

Replacing the rear cassette on the Cannondale -- part 6 -- Cleaning the old cassette

This is "junk" since it's worn.

But, I'm going to keep it to remind me of what can happen.

Don't want to keep it dirty, so will clean.

'

I found a used plastic container that's just the right size.

Submerged the parts in Simple Green cleaner.

Will leave it in the cleaner for several days, before doing some scrubbing with a brush...

Tuning in on the rear derailleur shifting with the "wider" range cassette...

The old worn out cassette is soaking in the container on the right.

In the glass jar, on the left, is the chain that's soaking in the cleaning solution.

They've been sitting in the containers for several days now and are ready to be taken out and the finished cleaning process...

These two small screws are what holds the rear derailleur hanger onto the bike.

They were slightly loose.

Using a small Allen wrench, tightened them...

I adjusted the rear derailleur rotation adjusting screw so that the chain engagement to the rear cassette gear is a little further back on the gear.

The idea is to make it a little easier for the chain to move from gear to gear...

 

Rearranged some stuff on the cabinet shelves for the bicycle stuff and some other "junk"...

 

Replacing the rear cassette on the Cannondale -- part 5 -- Installing the wheels and the chain

Installed the rear wheel and the DLC chain.

The derailleur position adjustment screw, top arrow (for adjusting the chain position on the gear, for when changing gears...).

The bottom arrow is the hand adjuster for the shifter cable.

The DLC chain is black.

The DLC chain came in the nicest packaging I've ever seen for a chain.

There's an outer sleeve.

Then a very nice box inside the sleeve with a flip up lid (with a magnetic "catch" for the lid).

Then a velvet "flocked" inner compartment for the chain with a foam pad on top...

Used a normal "missing link" to assembly the chain.

When I bought the chain (slightly used), it was "separated" at one of the links.  That's where the silver missing link was installed, after shortening the chain to the right length.  There was already a DLC missing link on the chain.  So, now there's two missing links on this chain.

The front derailleur alignment is pretty good.

The "crankset" (or front gears) are pretty worn.

Will have to replace them soon...

Close up view of the wear on the gear teeth.

The arrow on the left is pointing to some metal corrosion/degradation on the outer (large) chain ring...

Cleaned both wheels (spokes and rim) and installed the front wheel also.

Ready to ride.

Decided to swap out the front wheel skewer wit this Mavis skewer, since it matches the Mavic wheel...

Noticed this on my ride back home.

Vintage VWs hanging out at one of the Dockweiler Beach Parking Lot...

 

Old Camp Stove made in Sweden -- needs the fitting/connection for a 1 lb. propane tank...

I have this old camp stove that needs the fitting for the propane tank.

This fitting on the back of the stove appears to be a 14 mm connection.

Of course, all the stuff available in the US uses English fittings.

Need to find a converter fitting and the right connection for attaching a one lb. propane camping fuel tank...

This may be a tall task...

 

Dining table bench - part 1

S bought a used dining table for her apartment.

It's a large table with two leaves & can probably seat 8 to 12 people.

The table didn't come with chairs.

So, she wants to make a bench that can be used to seat some of the people (mix of chairs and benches).

I have this slab of lumber (pretty thick) that she can use to make a solid bench.

One edge is "natural" or "live" & the other edge is straight cut.

The straight cut edge can be the inside (where people's legs go).

 

Replacing the rear cassette on the Cannondale -- part 4 -- cleaning the rear derailleur

Before installing the wheel with the replacement cassette, the derailleur needs cleaning.  There's grease, dirt and sand on everything...

The red arrow is pointing to the main spring for the derailleur.  It's almost completely coated with sand...

I used compressed air to blow off most of the sand.

The "jockey" wheels' teeth are worn and there's a ridge around the wheel.

Nearly done cleaning...

The red arrow points to a stop screw that is not sitting on the derailleur hanger tab that it's supposed to be sitting on...  Misaligned...

Adjusted the screw out and now it's on the screw stop on the derailleur hanger...

Done cleaning.

Ready for the wheel.
