Saturday, November 16, 2024 -- Anderson Plywood Tool Swap Meet - Old Machinist's Tool Chest

An old wooden machinist's chest.
Not a Gerstner.
Might be a Union or other brand.
There's no markings on the chest.
It looks like someone skinned the chest in thin sheetmetal.
This style of handle appears to be from around WWII.
when it was reskinned, it looks like several extra reinforcing straps were added for stability of the sheetmetal skin.
This IAM sticker appears to be very old.

Drawer bottoms are tin.
These pins push down on a sprung tin in the box that locks the front lid.
Lid pin (not fully closed)
With lid fully closed, the pin in the box goes down to lock into the front lid.
The metal cover over the box is lead soldered together on the front lid.
International Association of Machinists.
IAM was established in 1890.
The handle has deteriorated.
