Monday, December 30, 2024 - Xochimilco Area - Ajolotario Apantli

Saw this place on Google map.
Axolotl is a salamander endemic to Mexico.
It's endangered.
CM wanted to see them.
We took an Uber from where we were to close to the place.
The Uber could only get so close.
Then we walked through one of the islands to a point across from the place.
But there was no bridge.
We didn't know how to get across.
We were about to give up & was going to head back.
While leaving, we made a turn to the point where we were supposed to cross the canal and this time there was a boat there.
People were getting off the boat.
We asked the guy controlling the boat how we can cross and he asked where we were trying to go.
We told him that we want to see the salamander (Axolotl) place.
He said he'd take us across.

When we were leaving to cross the canal, this boat with a pile of radishes was pulling up.

They use a long pole to maneuver the boat along the canal.

When we got across, we asked the guy how much the ride was.
He said it's free.
We asked how we can get back across later & he said that when we're ready, someone will take us back across.

This is the fully grown salamander.
The Axolotl is a phase in the development of the salamander.

The Axolotl is very slimy.

The fully developed salamander is not slimy.
Riding back to the other side.

This young lady was the person taking care of the salamanders.
She took us back.
