I don't have the right tool for the back of the the fastening screws.
I have this tool that will do for now.
The pins are too large for the slots so have to file them down to fit.
They're round.
Will put flats on two sides...
It's hard to tell but this is after filing the tips with the flats...
5 mm Allen bit.
First applied some penetrant on the fasteners and let it sit for awhile.
Used a small breaker bar to loosen the fasteners...
Was able to remove all the screws without too much trouble.
Cleaned all the parts of the crank that the new gears will interface with...
The used gears are pretty worn out, dirty and corroded.
New gears installed.
Getting the right torque on the screws is difficult without the correct tool for the receiving nuts.
Will order the right tool online.
The new gears look and fit good.
The large ring is 50 teeth instead of 53.
Better for the type of riding that I do.
Need to adjust the position of the front derailleur to match the new large gear...
The slots on the "nut" portion that needs the special tool...
The teeth are worn into wave shape...
The large gear is pretty corroded and worn like the small ring/gear.
Worn teeth and corrosion...
Old chain rings...
