Monday, December 30, 2024 - Xochimilco Area - Leaving the area to head back near the hotel for dinner

Walking back towards a major street to catch an Uber.
The many islands between the canals have narrow walkways to get around.  It seems that the people who live on the islands are not well off.  some pretty run down places but a few nicer places too.  It was pretty much all residential.

A lot of scooters and motorcycles everywhere in Mexico City.
Also reminded me of being in Italy.
They seem to take a lot of risks!
The driving in Mexico City also reminded me of Italy.  Pretty impatient with lots of maneuvering to move through traffic.  The driving style actually matches my driving!

Walked around the islands and came across some of the smaller canals or what seemed like dead-ends.
It was a lot quieter in these areas.
There seems to always be music or noise everywhere but there are some places we got to that were less so.

Almost back to a major street.

Lots of fish in this area of the canal.

Walked by this church with wide open doors.
Decorated for Christmas.

the small open doorway on the right is the shop.
Looking in, they had paint equipment (mixing).
It was very small inside.
I'm guessing that they paint the cars right on the sidewalk!

There were quite a few cars in the process.

Took an Uber back to the hotel & went to a 
restaurant called El Cardenal for dinner.
It's highly rated on the Google app.
The place is just at the end of the block in a small upscale mall.

CM got the tortilla soup, which came with a lot of sides to put in the soup.

I got a ceviche as an appetizer.  Very good.

The chilli relleno was my main & it was also very good.

CM got the beef (for tacos) as her main.
The place is very nice and clean.
The service was excellent.
We would have gone back again but there were so many places to try, we decided to not go to the same place twice on our short trip.
