In June of 1991, I was working at GM Concept Center California (CCC) in Newbury Park (near Thousand Oaks) as a "studio engineer".
I was probably there about 9 months at that point.
Very casual work environment.
Most of the six years that I worked there, I wore a t-shirt & shorts to work.
It was quite a contrast from my previous (first) job working for Ford in Dearborn.
You had to wear a suite & tie.
Didn't have to have the jacket on most of the time but had to have one with you at work.
At GM CCC, there was a small library (and a librarian! The whole place had maybe 25 people total so having a librarian was pretty unique.) with many magazines from around the world subscribed.
I think this was one of them.
I used to look through many magazines and brochures to gather basic design concepts for suspension and powertrain packaging for possible use in new vehicle concepts that we would work on.
Packaging of hardware was a major obstacle to getting the styling that was often desired....
The compact suspensions (Peugeot was particularly innovative with the rear suspension at the time) would allow for the interior packaging that the stylists would try to create, while having very low vehicle heights (challenging for interior space if you use large hardware)...
